You have always heard, that it is absolutely alright to weep. The emotional outbursts in the form of crying are necessary to keep your mental health strong. However, a recent study has highlighted another significant point that many of us, may not have known. According to the research, tears can help you lose weight and only if you are weeping between 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Yes, crying not only alleviates emotional distress but effectively kick extra kgs to the curb. However, crocodile tears are not counted here! Viral Picture of ‘Crying Girl on the Border’ Wins 2019 World Press Photo of the Year.

The study, published in AsiaOne, says that the reason tears are healthy because of the hormones triggered during crying help regulate the cortisol that forms when we bottle up emotions. It further highlights that there are three types of tears, the basal tears (that keeps our eyes moist), reflex tears (caused by the environment stressors such as smoke) and psychic tears (associated with emotions). And only psychic tears have the ability to make you lose weight. Why the World Should Let Men Cry?

Scientists advised crying between 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm every day. You can either binge-watch sad movies or discuss broken relationships during this period. The study even highlighted that stress-induced tears remove many kinds of toxic substances from the body, a claim backed by biochemist William Frey.

So the next time, do not feel embarrassed if you are shedding some tears over watching your favourite series/ movies or even having a rough day at work. It is a good time to pick up some tissues and let the tears out. But that does not mean, you go overboard being weepy. That can cause a host of other issues.
